Microsoft Reporting Services

Not having much to work on at work these days, I set out to learn about Microsoft Reporting Services yesterday. First, I needed to find a good website for good tutorials. After googling and checking out few sites on reporting services, I decided to go over the tutorials on this site,[http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms170246.aspx], which is written by Microsoft. The beginning of the tutorials were very simple and straightforward. But when it got to the parameters, things were getting little confusing. I finished up to "Adding Parameters to a Basic Tabular Report". "Advanced Features...." looked little too advanced for me. Until before yesterday, Microsoft Reporting Services looked very daunting and hard to learn. But now, I think I can create simple to intermidiate reports in MS Reporting Services. If you want to learn about it, check out that site and just follow the first few tutorials.

Today, I wanted to learn about binding data to web controls. Scott Mitchell's book "ASP.NET Data Web Controls" came to my mind. The book focuses on getting data in and out of datagrid, datalist, and repeater web controls. I've always had my eyes on that book. But since .NET 2.0 came out early this year, the book is outdated. What's nice was that the author knows this and has published number of tutorials on same topics in .NET 2.0, even for free! They can be found at "Working with Data in ASP.NET 2.0" The tutorials rather seem very long for each topic, but it's free!!! Going over these tutorials (Scott only published 10 tutorials out of 40 or so... which he's still working on) should surely help me understand the core concepts behind data binding.
